Meet The Face Behind Penticton Optical

I’m Diane Vaneck, the proud owner of Penticton Optical. I look forward to sharing my story and I hope that you will enjoy getting to know me better.

I enjoy working with people and have been in the optical industry for over twenty years. I took a four-year hiatus and worked in the telecommunications industry, but the tug of optics and opportunities for self-sufficiency called me back. The gift of sight is a wonderful gift to provide! 

Penticton Optical has been providing eye care needs to the people of South Okanagan since 1954. I took over the business in the summer of 2022. The previous owner wanted to ensure the same level of care and attention was going to be honored before he accepted my offer to purchase the business from him. I passed! I take pride in offering our clients the most up-to-date lens technology, frames and contact lenses on the market, consistent, proven quality and fantastic customer service.

Optics used to be a largely male-dominated field. Today there is diversity, and women are often leading the pack in our industry. I love hearing the words “I can see!” and “These glasses are so comfortable!” I also enjoy the freedom and flexibility business owners afford and take my responsibilities to my customers very seriously.

Additionally, lens designs for progressive multi-focal eyewear have improved significantly over the years. Unfortunately, glass lenses are being phased out altogether. Even though glass lenses have provided superior scratch resistance and phenomenal optics in the past, the coatings and materials have improved significantly enough to warrant the phase out of glass, which has been deemed as an unsafe product for eyewear.

As an individual, I believe what sets me apart from others is my commitment to delivering prompt and cheerful service. Similarly, I think that happy staff means happy customers, and I strive to ensure that my employees have an effective work-life balance.

I attribute our continued success to our fantastic team, our consistent hard work and the fact we deliver one hundred percent customer satisfaction.

Serving generations of clients has given me immense satisfaction over my years in customer service.

I have a few different hobbies and interests when I am not at work. I enjoy snowboarding, wake-surfing, fly fishing and golfing in my spare time. Every so often, I fly down a mountain on my mountain bike too.

I also believe in giving back to society and, as part of that belief, we contribute to The CNIB Foundation and the SPCA. I have also been a part of the Kelowna chapter of 100 Women Who Care since its inception in 2014, which provides donations to various charities four times a year.
