About Penticton Optical
I’m Diane Vaneck, the proud owner of Penticton Optical. The company was initially called Imperial Optical, an independent company that had been serving the beautiful community of South Okanagan since 1954.
In 1992 the previous owner, Larry MacKenzie, moved the store to its current location at 74 Wade Ave E. I went to school with Larry’s eldest daughter and met him as a teenager.
Flying Solo
Fast forward to 2021, when Larry was looking to retire, my friend reached out to me and suggested I buy the optical store. I had been a Licensed Optician for over twenty years and fancied a change from my current job. Since I was inspired by the store when I was younger, I felt it was a good investment.
Onwards and Upwards
Today, I have four trained Opticians with over twenty years of individual experience. We have an on-site lab to repair MOST issues that can happen with eyewear. Additionally, we process glasses within twenty-four to forty-eight hours for single vision and progressives or bifocal eyewear within seven to ten business days.
Our store is in the heart of downtown Penticton, near the banks between Ellis and Main St. We serve communities from Grand Forks, Osoyoos, Oliver, Peachland, Summerland, and of course, Penticton. We also conduct convenient home visits in certain circumstances.

While most people would love to have one pair of eyewear to suit all their needs, it isn’t always possible based on our lifestyles, careers, and budgets. Therefore, we customize our products to match our client’s requirements.
One aspect that makes us second to none is our in-house talent. Our lab tech, Stephen, has over thirty years of experience in Optical solutions. Allison has been in the industry for over twenty years and has an extensive sales background. Barb has over thirty years of experience and all the licenses an Optician can acquire, so I’m very fortunate to learn from her. Finally, I have over twenty years of experience ranging from independent coverage to understanding the components of the big box sales experience, which has helped to create our USP.
Unique Value Proposition
We are the only fully operational, in-house finishing lab with various tools to repair eyewear, licensed Opticians with years of experience, and a location in the heart of downtown Penticton. Additionally, as a small business that’s locally owned and operated, we provide a high level of customer service and take care of our clients after the sale.

One of our most significant achievements has been maintaining up-to-date technologies and offering the best options to our customers based on the latest products and services. We are also proud to have won a Silver ranking in the community of Penticton in 2020 for having one of the best Opticals serving the area.
Our dream for the future is to maintain our quality while bringing in cutting-edge styles that will stay within our clients’ budgets. Additionally, we are looking to expand our office to include an Optometrist.
Giving Back
While we are passionate about what we do, we care about protecting the environment. In this endeavor, we have a program where we collect old frames that get donated to third-world countries.
We also supported a charity called Y.O.R.S-Youth Outdoor Recreation Society this year. It’s a not-for-profit that promotes healthy lifestyles and better mental health by involving local youth in outdoor recreational activities.
